Using Hearing Aid Correctly

It is very important to choose a hearing aid properly and adjust it according to the user’s personal needs to compensate the hearing loss successfully. This is a task for a specialist. But the result of the hearing aid’s performance depends on the user much. It’s amazing but according to the statistics about 90% of users can’t use their hearing aids and service it properly. Even those who have been using hearing aids for many years don’t know how to use most of its functions. Here we will try to give important pieces of advice regarding appropriate operation and servicing your hearing aid. We hope that the following information will help you to use a hearing aid efficiently.

What does hearing aid consist of? The main spare parts of a BTE hearing aid are a receiver, an amplifier, microphone, and an ear mold.

The microphone’s function is inception of the sound and transforming it into electric impulses. The amplifier’s aim is to amplify the signals up to the required rate. He receiver serves for transforming electrical signals into audible sounds. In a standard BTE hearing aid model these three parts are placed into the device housing. In the RIC models the receiver is placed separately. It is connected with the housing by a flexible tube and is inserted into the ear canal.

The ear mold is aimed to lead the sound inside the ear towards the eardrum and also to fix the hearing aid on the ear. The ear mold is connected to the housing by a flexible tube.

Batteries are used to provide the hearing aid with power. If you notice that the volume or the quality of sound have decreased or the device has automatically stopped working the battery should be changed. To do this you should hook the battery compartment door with your nail and pool. The door can be usually opened without any effort. Take out the old battery and insert a new one observing polarity. If the battery is installed properly the door is closed tightly and without any effort. If trying to close the battery compartment you feel resistance do not press the door but open it and check the position of the battery.

There are several regulators on the hearing aid’s housing. One of them is volume regulator aimed to change the volume rate. The OTM switch allows to choose one of two performance modes – microphone mode (M), or telecoil mode (T). The O position is used to switch off the device. The receiver mode is used to listening to the surrounding noises and the telecoil mode is used to make telephone conversations or in the places equipped with induction systems. If you use the telecoil mode when you are talking on the phone, it is recommended to take the and-set as close to the hearing aid as close as possible and move it until you reach the best sound.
